Nude Study #4 by Jan de Ruth
This is a nude study by noted Czech-American artist Jan de Ruth. He was very well known for his nudes and wrote a book on painting nudes. The model is sitting and looks demurely away from the viewer. He uses a warm reddish-brown ink to enhance the mood of the scene. This is the 106th of an edition of 150.
Artist Bio: Jan de Ruth (1922-1991) was born in Czechosolvakia. During WWII he was impressed into a German work detail and spent time in 5 different concentration camps, including Auschwitz. He managed to escape on his fifth try. Even in the camps he tried to steal pencils with which to draw. After the war he fled to England and studied at at Oxford. He ultimately moved to the United States in 1948. He worked a variety of jobs before becoming successful as an artist in the mid 1950s. He had mulitple one-man shows and won numerous awards. He is best known for his nudes and portraits.
