The Remembering by Lorraine Moore
This is a large etching and aquatint by Oklahoma artist Lorraine Moore. It is typical of her work in one sense as it focuses on architectural elements which are central to her work. However, the introduction of the hand gesture coupled with the title of the print evokes a sense of history. There is also a sense of loss suggested by the one shutter that is askew, suggesting a deterioration or aging. It is a powerful image. The aquatint is deeply inked creating deep shadows and a sense of foreboding. The aquatint technique is reminiscent of her mentor Doel Reed. The image is well printed and inked. There are no issues with the paper, although it is in a non-archival mat, so there may be some mat burn of the paper, but it was not examined outside the mat. It is signed in pencil lower right and the edition is given in pencil lower left 5/25--a typical small edition size for Moore.
