Dulwich College by Wallace Hester
This is an etching of Dulwich College London. The artist is Wallace Hester (1866-1942 sometimes known as Robert Wallace Hester or Wallace R. Hester). He was a well known British artist, engraver, and caricaturist. While best known for his caricatures of famous people for Vanity Fair magazine, he also produced a number of etchings of famous British architectural landmarks. This is an etching of Dulwich College, a boarding school for boys in Dulwich, London, England. It was originally established in 1619. Despite a number of challenges over the ensuing 400+ years, it is still in existence today. This is a very traditional representation of the buildings and the wooded grounds. It was likely created in the first 2 decades of the 20th century. It is signed in pencil Wallace Hester lower left and titled in pencil lower right. It is mounted to a non-archival mat board. The image is 10 x 7 inches and the board measures 15.75 x 13 inches. The etching is in excellent condition. It is well struck with no fading, tears, paper loss, toning, staining, or foxing. A very nice traditional British architectural etching.
