Summer Day by Cennal

This is a large etching and aquatint titled Summer Day. The artist's name appears to be Cennal, but I can't be sure. In any case, I've not found anything on the artist. However, the piece itself is the work of a fine print maker. It depicts a scene with some buildings against a blue sky. There seems to be a wall in the foreground and a tree to the right, although both are very stylized and modern. The sense I get is adobe buildings in the American southwest, although it could be a European village. In any case, the piece is beautifully composed. The architectural elements are reinforced with blocks of color added through the aquatint technique. This is also used to create the blue sky with just a hint of wispy clouds. The artist's name is in pencil lower right, the title in pencil lower center, and the edition 25/50 in pencil lower left. It is archivally framed and matted. The framed size is 28 x 31 inches. No information is on the back of the piece, other than the framing studio. There is a label on the frame suggesting the piece came from a corporate collection, specifically the IDS building in Minneapolis. The piece was acquired from a University collection in the Twin Cities as part of a deaccessioning effort. This is a fine mid-century etching that is ready to hang.
