Snow-covered Hills by Susan Booth Titus

This is a serene drypoint etching by Ithaca, New York artist Susan Booth Titus titled Snow-covered Hills. The composition is created using the 'Golden Section' however the upper and lower third of the image utilize only negative space. The middle third contains trees and a few lines to render the hills and create the depth of field. This use of minimal lines and negative space creates the perception of newly fallen snow unmarred by tracks or other evidence of life. If a piece of art can be said to be quiet, the artist has conveyed that sense. The use of drypoint for the trees enhances the contrast with the snow. It is interesting that the artist printed the piece on cream paper. This gives the piece warmth that is frequently absent from these winter scenes. It's a lovely piece. It is signed in pencil lower right Susan Booth Titus. The edition is given in pencil lower left 225/250. The title is mine. The piece is archivally framed and matted. The framed size is 24.25 x 14 inches. It appears to be in pristine condition. There is no damage, paper loss, tears, toning, stains, foxing, or other condition issues. It has not been examined out of the frame. A wonderful contemplative work.
