Fight for New Island by Ferdous Ahmed

This is a woodblock print by Ferdous Ahmed titled Fight for New Island. It is a two color woodblock that depicts warriors in black with staffs and clubs fighting on a green background that may represent a shallow sea. The warriors are stacked on one another with a flat stylized perspective. It is signed and dated in pencil lower right Ferdous '83. The title is given lower left and the edition (9/10) lower center. The print is in excellent condition. There are no tears, paper loss, fading, staining, foxing, or other condition issues. A very interesting piece.

Not a lot of information is available on this artist. He is from Bangladesh. There is a record of an exhibit at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Gallery in Dhaka in 2003. This was an exhibit of calligraphy. One of his works was also included in a group exhibit at the Davidson Gallery in Seattle in 2023.
